Bag Chair

SØREN ULRIK PETERSEN 2002

The chair was presented at SE’s exhibition ’ThingPlace’ at the Danish Museum of Art and Design 2002. Søren Ulrik Petersens approach is functionalistic and works from the premise that his furniture should create a special feeling of closeness between people. And his ‘bag chair’ in wood and butt hide is a good example of this approach.

The chair comprises the idea that, some times, we all need to sit down and think about life. In the old days, the moot was a circle of rocks where the community meat to make decisions. Petersen’s bag chair solves the busy modern person’s need for a moot: you simply put your bag on the ground, where it will receive its guest and provide a nice resting place for a while.

The chair, which is conceived as a cross between a shoulder bag and a stool, is stabilised by a laminated, tensioned spring of ash.
